Re: Darren Randolph - Deal agreed
We wont get over £10m for him unless someone in the Prem really likes him.

I think he's a good 'keeper but he's not the kind of quality where another Premiership club would pull out all the stops to sign him.

If he does go though, I'd like to see us sign a young(ish) keeper who will be Hart's understudy this season with potential to play net season if we don't try and sign Hart permanently.

You might get a little more for Adrian- 7 mill maybe?

Really depends on who wants him and what they are willing to offer.

Re: Darren Randolph - Deal agreed
We did well to get 5 mill for rudolph. Adrian is a better keeper and Palace have got all that Sky tv money. They are taking the piss with that initial offer. I'd rather hang on to Adrian than let him go cheaply. We then have to solve a problem of replacing him. Not easy at all. I don't want GREENO back, that's for sure.

You won't find many buyers at that price Rylan.

Only 3m for Adrian, really?
Worth more than Randolph and seeing as he is one of our two remaining keepers I wouldn't sell for much under 10m.

Fuck me, I was a million out

Crystal Palace are in talks over a £3million bid for West Ham goalkeeper Adrian.

Adrian is coming to his peak years and we are told he has to leave to get in the SPANISH NATIONAL TEAM
He is probably worth about £12m like the Chelsea reserve Begovic but I'd want £15m to compensate us for any disruption

If it's Palace it becomes £18m

Adrian is miles better than Randolph. You dont need any statistics to know that.

Seems like a good guy, and I wish him all the luck in the world for Boro, aside from against us if/when we play them again.

We needed an upgrade though. He cost us points last season through some bad judgement and errors.

£5M for Darren and then getting in Hart on loan

Good business all round

Re: Darren Randolph - Deal agreed
I don't believe in measuring points gained per player (the sample size is always too small) but last season I make it we made 1.19 points per game Adrian played, and 1.18 points per game that Randolph played. It's not statistically significant, basically.

>>> a consistent performing regular first team (like Leicester two seasons ago) is a far better way of operating.

In that situation I agree. But most of the time (in fact nearly all of the time) a team won't be in that position where they're outperforming massively based on a very settled side finding some discovered synergy (that might be very fragile if tampered with). So a workable strategy might be to play solely your best side for the first 4-6 games, and if the magic isn't happening then become more pragmatic and think about the long game. In fact if it isn't happening then bringing in fringe players could be beneficial to results anyway!

As for Boro's transfer policy, as long as they're paying us silly prices for the likes of Downing and Randolph, long may it continue!

You could probably argue that he did cost us that many points/places though. And then there's the knock on effect on confidence and. I take etc every time a nuatake was made, both during the game and carried into the next one.

I can see a limited logic to playin players to keep their value up, but then that's hardly going to work if they're just plain useless. I'd argue a consistent performing regular first team (like Leicester two seasons ago) is a far better way of operating.

Also, I can't believe anyone watched randolph last season and thought he'd be worth that amount of money - that was his first season of vaguely regular top flight football and he hardly covered himself in glory. And yet they let valdes go?!

As a bit of fun you could try and measure that. If we take each place higher to be worth around £2m in current prize money, and Randolph to be worth £1m if he didn't play and £5m if he did, then playing Randolph makes financial sense as long as it costs the team less than 2 places in the league (and as long as the team stays in mid-table where placings don't really matter too much).

As it happens I don't think playing him really cost us anything as him and Adrian seem much of a muchness to me. So on reflection I think it was good he played based on the fee we've now got.

I suppose the broader question is this - should you always play all of your senior squad in a good number of games each season to increase their individual value?

Sniper 3:33 Sun Jul 23
Re: Darren Randolph - Deal agreed
True v, but then if he hadn't played and his replacement hadn't made so many errors we may we'll have finished higher up and made more in prize money

Yes Alex, when they undertook a statistical analysis Randolph would have popped up.

Or they could've asked you?

Alex V 2:28 Sun Jul 23
Re: Darren Randolph - Deal agreed
It does show the value added to a player if they play. If Randolph had sat on the bench all of last season would he be worth anything much at all? I doubt it. When lower clubs like Boro are filtering the market for premiership experience (as we are too) he pops up.
